Last year a neighbor wanted to get rid of her Christmas tree. It is in great condition and I love trees and Christmas and how could we pass it up.Sorry the new button is not working. I am waiting for a reply on how to fix it. Click on the post title to see the full post.
We used to always cut trees down--fresh -- every year.
We would go to the tree farm, just down the road from our old house and pick out the perfect, tallest tree we could find. The tree went in the corner and the ceilings went up extremely high in that corner. (It was a front to back split) my husband would stand on the highest rung of his ladder, while I stood on the landing, up in the kitchen, just to to get the lights and tree decorated up that high. Then my parents were moving and gave us their artificial tree and we have gone to cut a tree for the past few years. This tree isn't as tall as our tallest real tree but it is pretty tall. I think probably a 10 foot at least.
2,000 lights wrapped and I ran out, so Prince Charming ran to get me another 800. Here is where we are for now. Our 4 year old is so excited to get all the ornaments out and get the tree decorated. He told me we could just leave the tree like it is and decorate it. MAYBE NOT.
Before we even began. We organized all the branches. Then I color coordinated each branch with some of the sticky foam in different colors for each row. I put the coordinating color on that row of branches on the paper and on the middle of the tree pole so next year will go a lot faster.

wow, I'd LOVE to get that if someone was throwing it out, I stupidly bought a white one and now I don't like it and don't have much budget to replace :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat find!! Free is always best. Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Great score. Free is always nice. Congrats...
ReplyDeletewow! that's a lot of lights! maybe sarah from a beach cottage could flock her white tree with another color so she'd like it better. i used to have a white tree. too bad she doesn't live next door so i could take it off her hands!
ReplyDeleteHI Cheri,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comments on my post, and wow! I love your tree!! It's the perfect size and going to be gorgeous I'm sure! The gingerbread ball is actually handmade. I just decoupaged it with baking images and gave it a "kitchen" theme :) I got the Xmas ball from the dollar store and then used the gooseberry patch catalog and some Xmas magazines images and glued the images on :). It was a piece of cake, :)
Hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by! Happy Holidays and Hugs, Cynthia
this is gorgeous and awesome organazation!
ReplyDeleteI loved the kid's trees! You are so creative. Where do you find time to decorate all these trees and make ornaments? Your big tree is awesome. I cannot believe how many lights you have on it! WOW!
ReplyDeleteCheri,
ReplyDeleteFree is very, very GOOD! I bought 6boxes of lights Sunday. The price adds up quickly, but the sparkle is so nice. I read you're hosting a weekly holiday party, so will add your event button to my sidebar. Have fun decorating!

I finally broke down and bought a pre-lit Christmas tree about 10 years ago. I did my own lights until that last Christmas 10 years ago when half of the lights wouldn't work and I was so frustrated I gave up. I love my pre-lit trees. Your is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWe got a faux tree for the first time in a long, long time last year. It is not pre-lit, but I am thankful that it came with coordinating letters to the branches and the base. Makes it so much easier as long as I put all the letters together when we take it down.
ReplyDeleteLucky you! That's a nice Christmas tree, shape is good....Christine
ReplyDeleteLove, love LOVE that tree!!! My hubby was have a stroke! He thinks 100 lights for a 7 ft. tree is plenty. When he made that statement years ago, that's when he was relieved of his duties!!! LOL!

Holy COW! That's a ton o' lights. And, I might add, they look beautiful. Great idea to keep it all organized.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving your sweet comment.
what a great (HUGE) tree, we have really short ceiling in our house, 9ft I think, so I actually had to bend my tree topper to get it to fit...LOL, we have an 8ft tree
ReplyDeleteFor me, the lights are the worst part of decorating the tree. This year, we tested our lights and made sure they worked before putting them on the tree, but once on the tree (after it was completely decorated), half of them decided to burn out...frustrating. I don't want to take everything off the tree (which is what I'd have to do before taking off the lights), so I'll just add more lights. :)
ReplyDeleteGoodness!! You have a lot to post about today! Love your tree! What a ton-o-lights!! It's worth it!!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
Hugs, Lisa
