Show me Some Headboard and Bench ideas

Mcklinky headboard party is up till Nov 7th.  NO RULES on this one--just post all of your fun ideas for me.  Have you seen a bench or made a bench, you can even do a search for a bench and --post it.  I am working on my ideas and once my headboard gets shipped to me I will begin the work.  I hope it is as amazing as I have in my head.

I am posting a yummy Apple Dip recipe for you gals to enjoy. I posted it here. This is hands down our favorite apple dip recipe.

It is called Apple Dip but we like to use, not only the Granny Smith Apples with this Dip, but also Green Seedless Grapes. The tartness of the Granny Smith Apples and Green Grapes is a perfect combination with this OH SO SCRUMPTIOUS dip. We have used Gala Apples-they are crisp and sweet with a little bit of tartness to them but we love the Granny Smith Apples better with this particular dip. Sometimes I will have the dip in the middle in a bowl and have green grapes, Red Gala Apples, Red seedless grapes and Green Apples alternating.

Apple Dip

1-8 oz brick of cream cheese, softened to room temperature
1 small jar of marshmallow cream
1 package of Skore English Toffee bits(not the ones covered in chocolate-just the plain ones)

Mix all the ingredients together and refrigerate. This dip is best, if it is made a day ahead of time, because it begins to caramelize. Through out the day pull it out and stir it.

Slice up your apples. As I cut up my apples I have a bowl, about half full, with either lemon lime soda or a lemon water solution. As I slice up the apples they go right into the bowl. This will keep your apples from turning brown and ugly before you serve them. I would not do this process the day before or your apples may get water logged but you can definitely do it several hours before so you aren't trying to get apples slices up right before an event.

I have used Granny Smith and Gala Apples plus Red and Green Seedless Grapes on a round tray, placing the apples across from each other and the grapes in between the two, with the dip in the middle. It looks pretty, it provides sweet and tart options, but best of all-it tastes-OH SO WONDERFUL.

Mcklinky show me some benches--headboard benches and more -- are you mad for plaid?

I saw in a magazine that Walmart has a Better Home and Garden dinnerware set coming out.  It looked really pretty but I am not finding it on line at Walmart, to be able to show you.

Did you know??? Plaid is going to be all the rage this year, so watch for plaid-it is in everything--from rain boots, scarves, clothes, furniture, watches, room accessories-you heard it here--Mad for Plaid.

I started getting in several some bench ideas and decided to do a mcklinky so people can post all of their bench ideas. Some people haven't posted their ideas yet but I am hoping more and more will come in. 
I know I am crazy buying a headboard here, when we are flying--but here is my reasoning:
1.  Prince Charming will be done with school and we will be moving at some point. Even if we don't move back here, we left our beautiful entertainment center, hand made by my father-in-law in cherry wood, at my in-laws house.  We have to come pick it up so why not pick up a bench?  right
2. It was $3.00 When I mentioned that I wanted it, to Prince Charming, he was heading out the door with one of the boys to run an errand and came home with it--so he must have thought it was a good idea too.
3.  I think I already said this but It was $3.00 and in great shape.

My head is already spinning with ideas, I just want to make sure I do exactly what I want with it so post any ideas you find to help me out.

I am leaving this up all weekend and will make sure to repost from time to time since I am leaving it up a couple of weeks.

Call me crazy--yes I am going nuts--stir crazy--please remind me to travel with accessories (otherwise known as scissors, glue gun, ribbon--basically all craft supplies, even if I have to leave an extra bra behind).  I am working on some projects now.  I decided the kids could at least start working on some Christmas ornaments etc while we are here.  We can wrap the ones that are gifts for family and leave them here till Christmas, even though no one has their trees up yet--oh well-NO PEAKING.

Most antique headboards and matching foot boards are to narrow for present day mattresses. But old headboards make great benches. This antique headboard was given to me by a wonderful neighbor who couldn't see the use of it. She also had the matching foot board. They were collecting dust and dings in her garage.

I loved all the carved detail. It was a worn, dirty mahogany color.
Using TSP cleaner, I cleaned the ninety plus years of grime and oil off and painted a first coat of gold.

I lightly sanded between coats of paint. I then painted it a glossy black and let it cure for 48 hours.

We used pine and built a box slightly wider than the actual headboard. I cut out the leg detail for a little pizzazz.

2. The original headboard has legs and I didn't want to ruin the integrity of the solid frame so we didn't cut them off. We just used the old headboard (with legs) as the back of the bench box.

We simply cut holes into the top of the pine box and slid the intact headboard into these. This made the bench very sturdy. And if I ever wanted to change my mind and use the headboard for a even more clever something, I could just slip the headboard out of the slots.

I then painted the pine box to match the headboard. I sanded back the black paint to show glimpses of the gold underneath. I used a paste wax to buff an old world glow into the finished piece.

Oh I found a fabulous headboard and footboard at Goodwill for $3 today--I need you to send me all kinds of great bench ideas so I can decide on how to make my new bench project.



We are leaving to take 3 kids to the hospital, 1 is finally on the mend.
Still checking ticket prices since they are 5 times the price we paid--YIKES

A quick note--if your family gets sick during this season be sure and pour boiling water over the toothbrushes after each use to kill the bugs.
