G4's Oh So Shabby Chic bedroom

I am about to run out the door but wanted to get a decorating post on here-so you can see that I really do LOVE decorating and can do it. This is G4's room (before we moved) and although I sold her toddler sleigh bed-that I painted and roughed up to look shabby-before we moved (she will have a new big girl bed once we get moved again) her room will look a lot like this. There were still a few more things I needed to get in place to have her room be just like I wanted. I have a couple of old plates but I needed a few more before I put them up. I also want to get her name on a board and I am looking for the right photo of roses or something that fits for this room. That's how I have worked on my boys rooms as well. I made her baby/toddler bed comforter, curtains, bedskirt etc and added to her bedspread-when she got into her real big girl bed. I'll show her comforter some other time-I love it-it's so girly. I made her chandelier as well and the tea cups that are on the chandelier. The dresser was so disgusting when we got it and I kilzed and painted it, sanded and roughed it up, added new hardware and onlays and it came out OH SO FABULOUS. Daddy made her mirror and we added the onlays that made it just perfect for her shabby chic room, then painted, sanded and roughed it up. I hope you enjoy the room. I LOVED getting to do a girly room after 3 boys. Don't get me wrong I adore my boys but it is a whole other life over here, walking on the girly side. If you click on the picture to enlarge it you can see the onlays we added to the dresser and mirror. When I get the exact bed I want for her room I will add onlays to it as well.

Our sweet Miss Goo-she was so proud of her room and loved taking anyone who came over to show them her room and her "big" girl bed.

I also made her curtains-they reminded me of a crown.

If you look close at the chandelier you will notice that we are one tea cup and saucer short. I began making her tea cups and saucers over a month before her 1 year birthday and we had one problem after another. My husband went to pick them up for me. This was the 3rd or 4th time the cups were being picked up. He got home and I opened them and we had one to few cups and saucers and the color was totally wrong again. We finally got the cups and saucers 11 months after I began the process and only because we were moving so they were never on her chandelier in her room. I also made the lampshades with an adorable pink rose bud chenille.

This is a close up of the lampshade. Don't you just love that material?

I worked on the dresser-I so wish I had a before picture-you would be inspired to look at something very ugly and imagine the beauty it could be. My sweet hubby worked on her mirror. He made the frame from scratch. Look at that sweet shawl just to the left of her mirror-isn't that so cute. I picked that up at a children's consignment shop.

I bought that hutch before I was ever married. It was just a solid wood, no stain or sealer. My husband thought I was crazy when I decided to paint it white but once I had it painted he liked it. The olive green glass vase is something I got from my Grandmother's house and I treasure it. I made most of the blankets on the shelf and made all the basket liners to go inside the baskets-much cheaper than buying the already lined baskets or buying the basket liners. I did not want them all the same-I wanted it to look eclectic-mis matched-Shabby chic so I made each one a little different.

G2 asked me last night, as I was kissing them good night and tucking them in, if we could re-do his room in a different theme, after we get moved. He said he liked the nautical look but was really wanting something else. So my mind is working and thinking about a theme for him-I threw out an idea and he liked it so we shall see how it develops.

  1. Oh so beautiful! I'm sure you had a ball decorating Gabby's room after having all those boys running around! Cheri, you should go into decorating full time after your sweet children go off to college. You could certainly make some $$$ at it.

  2. Thank you so much sweet Vonda. You are so sweet. I know you have enjoyed doing your girls rooms as well. We were at an antique store the other day and they had several chandeliers and I immediately thought about you. I was thinking-there are enough here for Vonda to have one for each of the girls and I could even make some OH SO ADORABLE chandeliers and sell them--hmmmm!!! My brain just doesn't ever stop thinking. I'll send you an e-mail sweet girl-in case you don't check this out again for a response. Love ya (like a sista!!!)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading each and every comment. Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. I wish I could sit and chat with each of you face to face, sipping on an ice cold lemonade (in the hotter months) or a nice hot cup of coffee (in the colder months), getting to know each other but this is fun too.
