The Knock Off Knock Out party-- Framed Chalkboard paint project

Sorry I am getting this up late. I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend.

I picked up this frame from the GoodWill. Someone had tried to start a DIY project on it. They were hand painting it and not getting it covered very well. I guess spray paint never crossed their minds. This is how it looked when I discovered it.

I knew I wanted to paint it, scuff it up and add a chalk board in the center but this is what she looked like when I rescued her.

There are so many great chalkboard projects out there, so I just thought I would show a few for my Knock Off:

I painted and got all the crevices covered, then I went over some areas with some black paint and even some areas with a taupe paint. After that had dried I went over everything with white and let it dry, then I sanded off some of the paint revealing some of the details. I sanded and painted the board with chalkboard paint. I painted 3 coats, letting it dry for about 24 hours in between each coat. Finally, I glued in the board and put heavy books on it while it dried.

Here is my Knock Off. I just got it done this evening.

I got the frame for $4
A small amount of the chalkboard paint maybe $2
I had a board cut into several pieces for several different projects I am working on. I can't wait to show you some of them. This piece of the board was probably $2
I used a little of my hubby's Wood glue to glue in the board.
So this project was around $8

I will be posting to:

The DIY Show Off

DIY Day @ ASPTL

I can not wait to showcase a friends home. It is soooo darling. As soon as she gets all of her pictures e-mailed to me I will be doing a post. You will be drooling over all the details in their house. It is charming with a capital "C". Mrs. T put so many loving touches throughout the house. You will love her use of vinyls and wait till you see what Mr. T made and I asked if he would give instructions on how to do a DIY for my blog and he has agreed. She is so cute and excited to have her house showcased. I have know this couple since they were both little kids. Mr. T and his parents are dear friends with our family and his sweet wife automatically joins the list. Mr. T's dad is a retired KC Royals player and Mr. T's Mom was my wedding coordinator, so this family has a very special place in my heart. I can not wait for you to see their home. I am hoping to get to post it this week. I'm so giddy with excitement. Seriously a magazine should photograph their house-it is that amazing. SO, stay tuned.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE to read your comments and If you sign up as a follower be sure to leave me a comment so I can be sure to come for a visit. I typically get over for a visit within 24 hours. I will post my favorite, from the party, on Tuesday.

Wednesday will be the "Celebrate the Holidays" party. If you have any decorations up for the season-Labor Day, Sept 11 or getting ready for fall come on over and show case them. We also love those special recipes that are presented for the party.

  7. Thanks for the comment Cheri...I like the idea of sanding the letters first, and yes...after I started I considered mod podge, but it was too let by then! LOL! I think I would've had to sand off some of the texture though to get that to work too, so it would've been a lot of work either way I guess. Oh, and yes, I am a follower! :) I love your chalkboard project, by the way! Thanks again!

  22. I have been wanting to try a chalkboard paint project. I have an old Home Interiors mirror that I wanted to transform into a chalkboard. Do you know if you can paint directly onto a mirror? I'm sure you can, but just wondering if you've done it. Love your new chalkboard!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading each and every comment. Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. I wish I could sit and chat with each of you face to face, sipping on an ice cold lemonade (in the hotter months) or a nice hot cup of coffee (in the colder months), getting to know each other but this is fun too.
