CHRISTMAS EVE GIFT-IT'S ON
We have a fun little tradition. My Grandmother did it for as long as I can remember. I don't know if she started it or where she got the idea. Her Mother died not long after she was married and although they were fairly wealthy, especially for the standard of the day, there wasn't the commercialization like there is today. Unfortunately she passed away a couple of years ago and so I can't ask her where this tradition started-it never dawned on me to ask her when she was alive.

What is CHRISTMAS EVE GIFT?
As soon as the phone rings on Christmas Eve--all day long-- we answer the phone, NOT WITH HELLO, but CHRISTMAS EVE GIFT. If it is family, they are calling trying to GET YOU. There is no time to say Hello, you have to GET THEM before they GET YOU. If you are not family calling, you will still be greeted all day long with CHRISTMAS EVE GIFT.

If they get you, you have to get them some little gift like a pack of gum, nothing expensive, just a little gift.

I loved this little tradition as a kid and our kids love it too.

So if you call me today, just know I will answering the phone CHRISTMAS EVE GIFT.

You can mail my gift to me.

Merry Christmas Eve Gift, Cheri! :O Guess what? My mother has a similar story! She grew up very poor and her brothers and sisters would walk down the road and when they saw someone coming they would all yell "Christmas Eve Gift" thinking the persons would throw them a gift. Unfortunately, the didn't get any gifts that way. They must have heard about this tradition.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful Christmas,

Hi Cheri
ReplyDeleteI have been a bad blogger and crafting more than visiting..just wanted to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...
We do something similar, though we do it on Thanksgiving and Christmas day. We say Gobble Gobble or Ho Ho Ho. You have to get the caller before the caller gets you. In this day and age of Caller ID, we tend to block our numbers when we call LOL!
